Westward Ho! beach is one of the safest beaches in Devon due to the sands shallow gradient. You can walk right out and only be in waist depth water. We get very few rip tides here and no submerged obstacles, add this to our wonderful crew of RNLI Lifeguards that patrol the beach from May to September, it's a perfect place to learn to surf.Here is where you can learn to surf in Westward Ho!:-

Westward Ho! isn't as famous a surf destination as Woolacombe, Croyde or even Saunton but this really helps!
Learning to surf on a better, more powerful wave, comes with many challenges including angry locals that make you feel uncomfortable and want you off their wave! Westward Ho! is a big beach with lots of room and peaks breaking all down it. Due to the amount of space, you can find a peak to surf that's quiet, this creates a friendly vibe in the water making it the prime beach in North Devon to learn on.
Westward Ho! isn't just a beginner wave either, we can get some pretty epic conditions here on the right day. The village makes a superb base for a surf holiday with it's varied accommodation, places to eat and bars. You can learn to surf easily, find great waves to surf once you have mastered it and if you want to drive to another beach, Westward Ho! is situated between Saunton, Croyde, woolacombe one side of us and Sandymouth, Bude, Widemouth Bay the other.
